Second Lieutenant is the first rank you obtain after completing your military training in the Nigerian Defence Academy and is commissioned as a regular officer. Those people who joined the Nigerian Army as a Graduate (DSSC/SSC) also get the rank of second Lieutenant (SSC) after their 9 months of training in the Nigerian Defence Academy. Please note that the DSSC Ranks does not start from second Lieutenant. It starts from Lieutenant. Benefits of Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army
Second Lieutenant has many benefits and we will be looking at all the benefits and we are going to be listing them all here.
First benefit as a Second Lieutenant is that you are already a Commissioned Officer and some soldiers may be assigned to you in the place of your deployment to work under as you be their commander. This simply means that you will be in charge.
Second benefit of being a Second Lieutenant is that You will be paid higher than the NCOS that even joined the Nigerian Army before you. Example, A warrant officer who may have worked in the Nigerian Army for up to 25 years may be receiving a salary of about N110,000 while a newly graduated second Lieutenant will be paid about N180,000.

As a second Lieutenant, you will only have to serve not more than six months for regular officers and 2 years for SSC before you will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
As a Second Lieutenant, you are also entitled to so many allowance which can also boast your salary. Note that the allowances depends on the place of deployment. If you are in a fighting zone, you will be paid more than those that are not in the fighting zone.
