BVN stands for Bank Verification Number. It is a unique ID number which is issued to every Bank customer at enrolment and linked to every account that the customer has in ALL Nigerian Banks.
Individuals shall be required to submit an acceptable means of identification as prescribed for enrolment in any of the banks in which they operate. One person is only entitled to only one BVN as it is recorded with a fingerprint.
BVN gives a unique identity that can be verified across any Nigerian Banking Industry (not peculiar to one Bank)
This helps Customer’s Bank Accounts to be protected from unauthorized access
